Air test and FIT

At last received MCS from Engenius and Energy Performance Certificate from Anthony Wright after passing the air tightness test with brilliant colours. Apparently we received the best reading Anthony has ever done on the island, making Beach cottage A++. John is extremely pleased our efforts have paid.

Solar panels

Installed and running (even when cloudy and sun not directly our 12 panels generate 0.5 kW!), spent the whole weekend frantically sealing every tiny gap with Tescon pro-clima tape, mastic or foam in readiness of the air tightness test. We need certificate to qualify for higher feed-in tariff.

Slates and tiles

After lengthy search and numerous experiments with linseed oil and various synthetic sealants we've taken the plunge. Bought terracotta tiles for kitchen cheap(£15/m instead of £45/m) but nearly a third are broken! We have calculated that we will have enough whole tiles for the floor if we don't lay any under the work top. Done! And some money back too! Next thing will be the laying...another story!

Round the island race

John's first race round the island! Woke early and saw the last two batches race by Gurnard. Didn't recognise "Déjà Vu". Settled then to take more of the bay tree to the dump.

Sealing windows

John starts to seal windows with Pro-clima tape, super sticky! I give a coat of linseed oil/ cuprinol/varnish on the window cills and we treat ourselves to a supper at the Woodvale, sunset included..

South elevation

Slates on roof

John R started with North elevation and fitted the first Fakro roof light. Looking very good!

Bathroom windows

While I dismantle the pallets windows were delivered on,
John is perfecting his lead burning technique for the bathroom windows

And a red front door!
